Simple Steps to Network into Your Next Job

There are a lot of misconceptions about networking I’ve found. It’s not really about going to endless conferences and events and nonsense like ‘working the room'.Sure there’s a place for that, but the fundamental fact is that you must invest in building your network BEFORE you need to call on it.

I am still amazed at how many of my professional friends have completely failed to make any investment of this type. Some don’t have a Linkedin Profile. Some do, but it’s rudimentary and tells people almost nothing. Even fewer have a Twitter profile and almost none have a blog. None of them have grasped how social media effectively combine and interact to create new opportunities.

Today’s’ jobs market works totally differently to how it did even five years ago due to the fact that the internet and especially social media have transformed how recruiters work. If you want to succeed in this new job market you have to know what the new rules are and behave accordingly.

My thanks go out again to Patra Frame for this excellent and simple guide to what we all must know and do to network effectively.
