I have noticed that part one of Jill Konrath’s excellent
seminar on getting a job in the recession is now the most visited page on this
blog.
I’m taking this as a sign that many people would like to see
part 2 as well. So here it is.
When you are a mature job seeker in this terrible recession,
the time it takes to find a new job is getting longer and longer. As I have
talked about on Twitter and with those
of you that come to me for advice, spending all your time applying for jobs is
actually counter-productive, even if it does make you feel you are working as
hard as you can to get a job. You have to know how to work smarter, not harder.
Keeping your mind, body and skills sharp is an essential task too . Neglect
this and you will slowly but surely lose your edge, becoming less attractive to
potential employers.
More than ever, it’s time for some smart strategies. You
must focus and invest in turning yourself from a person without a job, into the
person that is going to get hired soon. And the key to doing that isn’t sending
out hundreds or even thousands of letters and resumes. So, what is it you
should do differently? Understanding exactly
what employers are looking for is essential. And this isn’t what you might
think.
Watch this now and discover what you may have been doing
wrong all along….
My thanks go to Jill for another excellent video.
